Svyaz Engineering CJSC has bought seventy-percent stake of AEROGREEN JSC, a wind turbine manufacturer. The Aerogreen project, started by Yuriy Kriulin, an engineer from Irkutsk, was a finalist of the clean technology track of GenerationS-2014 organized by the RVC.
Under the transaction terms, a team of engineers of Aerogreen will work on a project together with developers of Svyaz Engineering. Aerogreen wind turbines will become part of a comprehensive solution that will help to ensure energy supply in remote areas not connected to the central grid. Today such areas are primarily using diesel generators for power supply. They consume fuel, delivery of which is a heavy burden on local budgets.
In addition to the Aerogreen wind turbines, the complex solution will include a voltage converter for the industrial grid (inverter) and "climate cabinet," a container for equipment in adverse climatic conditions. Svyaz Engineering has its own patents in the field of inverters and equipment containers, and its own full-time developers who have expertise in this field. Thus, the purchase of Aerogreen technology has given the company an opportunity to enhance their expertise and bring a comprehensive solution to the market in a short time. The first version of the solution will hit the market within a year. The mass production release dates will depend on a test cycle and field testing.
Vladimir Khlebnikov, CCO, Svyaz Engineering CJSC, said, "We have two tasks now. The first one is to master production of new turbine-based systems with no need to orient to the wind. This will ensure their stable operation at high wind speeds and in adverse weather conditions. The second task is to master production of new-generation inverters. These technologies can significantly expand the geography of wind turbines. Moreover, we believe that the use of turbine technology and original Aerogreen design will improve the utilization rate of the air flow more than twice compared with the three-blade systems."
The Aerogreen project was a finalist of the CleanTech track of GenerationS, the federal accelerator for technology startups. The unique design of the Aerogreen wind turbine makes it possible to use the air flow more efficiently and achieve the higher performance in comparison with the three-blade solutions. The design has been patented in Europe, USA, India, China, Russia, and the CIS countries. A large volume of research and development work has been done by now.
