GenerationS Names 40 Best Russian Startups

Experts have picked 40 winners of pre-acceleration stages in the GenerationS Industrial Track. Now the participants will be going to Kazan where the contest finalists will be identified.

Short-listed contest participants were selected during pre-acceleration weekends. The top 130 GenerationS Industrial Track applicants received hands-on training for two days, and deliver their presentations during a pitch session on the third day, which were graded by a panel of experts. The panel included private investors, invited speakers and educators, and venture capitalists. The experts evaluated every project’s competitive advantage first of all, followed by checking how well the business model was developed, how professional the team members were and how innovative every startup was in its technology.

“Choosing the best was not easy, but the selection process reduces the likelihood of subjective errors: three expert panels in three Russian cities evaluated all project teams on the same set of criteria. I would advise patience to those who made it to the shortlist: they still have the acceleration program (which is pretty hard), and the [Industrial] Track final ahead of them,” CEO of Pulsar Venture Capital Pavel Korolev said.

The greatest number of Top 40 participating teams hail from Moscow, Irkutsk, St. Petersburg, Kazan, Yekaterinburg and Omsk. Ivanovo, Cheboksary, Krasnodar, Stavropol and several other cities have each produced one team to qualify for the acceleration round. The projects are in different stages: from the idea stage to an operating business. Many teams have their patents and their own scientific designs.

Now, the short-listed startups and project teams are in for the acceleration program in Kazan. The participants will get to work with gurus of technology entrepreneurship, venture capitalists and business angels, experts in marketing, PR and other professionals. After the acceleration stage, 15 projects will be selected to enter the contest final.

The GenerationS final, which will take place in October at Open Innovation, a international forum in Moscow, the best project teams from all four GenerationS sector tracks will present their projects to Russian and international investors and also compete for RUB 5 million in prize money and other prozes from contest partners.
