GenerationS — GenerationS is a nationwide acceleration contest for technology startups technology startups, which has been operated since 2013 under the auspices of the Russian Venture Company (RVC) and the Moscow Center for Innovative Development (CID), with support by the Moscow City Hall. The contest welcomes applications from companies and project teams from across Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).
Contest participants will compete for the right to present their projects to investors at the Open Innovations international forum in Moscow, as well as for a RUB 5 million cash prize and special prizes from contest partners.
A training and development acceleration program plays an especial role in the GenerationS, teaching the basics of running a technology business. To apply for the contest, project teams must apply apply , before June 30, 2014, selecting one out of four sectors:
Industrial — иndustrial solutions
IT — information technology
BioTechMed — biotech and healthcare
CleanTech — energy efficiency and resource saving
«“We see GenerationS as a tool for addressing a number of infrastructure challenges,” said Gulnara Bikkulova, Director for Innovative Markets and RVC Executive Board member. “The project launch last year gave an impetus to developing acceleration programs in the “regions,” [outside the national capital Moscow], breathing new life into the idea of mentorship and giving investors a real way to observe the progress of a project before making the investment decision. The objective of GenerationS-2014 is to bring forward strong players in specific industries who are capable startup operators and to engage investors in technology areas which are currently less than popular as investment targets.”
Moscow CID General Director Konstantin Fokin said that “the [Russian] capital city is a large government customer for innovative solutions. This is why Moscow, with all these resources available, can and should be a driver for development of technology projects across the entire territory of Russia.”
As many as 1,600 companies and project teams applied for the 2013 GenerationS contest. Out of them, 70 were selected to participate in the acceleration program. The contest helped seven project find investors, and a number of companies opened their offices in Moscow.
