The Day of Health industry at Open Innovations-2015

GenerationS was presented on the start-up show with Kleiber bionic prosthesis.

The prosthesis copies the kinematics of a healthy person's hand, providing 14 options of grasping objects and a unique opportunity of automatic grasping of an object with the adaptation to its complex shape, based on the use of specialized software. This is achieved by the use of 14 tactile sensors that enable the prosthesis to sense external influences.

“It is very interesting to look into the eyes of those who do business in the health industry. They are very motivated”, Alexander Potapov, RVC’s executive director and board member, said at today’s opening of startup pitch session at Open Innovations. “This year, RVC is holding GenerationS in cooperation with corporate partners who are already interested in our projects. At the moment, a corporate accelerator on biotechnology and medicine is held in Tomsk. The main thing is to learn, studying in a focused way and using all the knowledge, make a lot of mistakes along the way, make discoveries that will glorify you and open a new page in the history of science.”

In his pitch on the advantages of project Kleiber, Ivan Krechetov, the project’s founder, mentioned his ambitious plans: by 2020 he is planning to have 20% of the Russian market, selling 20,000 prostheses annually, and by 2017 it is planned to develop a full-length prosthetic arm. Now the company is looking for pilots who will participate in the improvement of the prosthesis.

One of the main questions from the audience was the cost of the prosthesis. The current cost is RUR 195,000 without the tactile sensors, and over RUR 300,000 for the product equipped with the tactile sensors. Upon entering the international markets, it is planned to set a price that is competitive compared to the price for similar products developed by foreign companies.

In the start-up zone, GenerationS was represented by the following projects: “Avrora-Automatic Piloting Systems” (Zone Robotics), “The use of polymeric composite materials in aircraft engines” (Industrial zone), the Samokat.net project (Cleantech zone) and the Cardberry project (Mobility zone).
