GenerationS names the best Russian early-stage start-ups

Among the winners were the project teams that showed significant growth during their studies and received the highest expert appraisal at the finals. The start-up entrepreneurs are going to meet potential industrial customers already this autumn during the GenerationS-2017 selection phase. Ten final teams received grants from the Innovation Support Fund.

GenerationS-2016 received 4,237 applications, more than half of which came from early-stage start-ups, that is 2,743 applications. Such start-ups were enlisted in a comprehensive educational program of GenerationS pre-accelerator. 620 teams from more than 100 cities of Russia became participants of the GenerationS pre-accelerator.

The start-up entrepreneurs underwent a saturated 8-month-long educational program of Pre-accelerator, which is aimed at improving the quality of projects and bringing them to new development levels. The program included distance learning and in-person activities focused on team building, cooperating with personal mentors, increasing business competencies and developing a prototype.

The Pre-accelerator finals featured 60 top teams, who had presented their developments to investors and experts at Startup Village under the GenerationS non-competitive selection round. The presentations by tech-up entrepreneurs were estimated by more than 30 representatives of investment funds and corporations, including NPO Saturn, Microsoft, Rosatom, Faberlic, Starta Capital, Sberinvest as well as Russian Technical Society and many others.

The finalists competed in the directions corresponding to six tracks of GenerationS-2017 accelerator.

THE WINNERS:

• Agro&Medtech: Agrobotics team with an unmanned facility for automatic crop processing with the help of sprayers (Moscow);
• Сreative: Miointerface team with the bracelet capable of managing various devices by reading out their electromyographic signals (Moscow);
•  Fintech: the Finazzi online BI-service team, who can form a financial model in two clicks: from business value calculation to probability analysis;
• Mining&Metals: Mahydy team with the highly economical technology of aluminized steel profiles for external structures (Moscow);
• Power&Еnergy: the team that developed membrane separation materials for high-capacity energy storages and sources of autonomous power supply (Saratov);
• TechNet: the team that developed new quartz optical fibers with increased diameter, intended for high-speed data transfer via compact multiport networks (Samara).

This autumn the winners of the GenerationS pre-accelerator are going to gather at the Startup BootCamp, a full-time intensive program featuring leading Russian business trainers, mentors and corporate experts. At the end of the program the GenerationS-2017 partner companies will select the most promising projects into their accelerators

“The finalists of the GenerationS pre-accelerator have come a long way. Six months ago, each of them had only an idea. However, at the Startup Village the experts saw the well-formed tech-up entrepreneurs ready to come aboard the GenerationS corporate accelerators and start working with industrial customers,” said Mikhail Antonov, deputy general director of the RVC innovation infrastructure development.

The Pre-accelerator finals determined the holders of UMNIKGenS grants under the “Umnik” program organized by the Innovation Support Fund, which is a development partner of GenerationS.

FOLLOWING THE RESULTS OF THE EXPERT EVALUATION THE GRANTS WORTH OF 500,000 RUB WILL GO TO:

— Svetlana Shafrostova, the project on inertial navigation systems based on advanced multi-axis micromechanical gyroscopes-accelerometers;
— Artem Maslov, the project MioLimb. Sport;
— Rezeda Allaguvatova, the project on the use of Chlorella vulgaris alga as a plant growth stimulator for greenhouse crops;
— Kirill Shaposhnikov, the project “New neuroleptic remedy”;
— Ilya Minaev, the project “Cardio-online platform for cardiodiagnostics”;
— Alexander Sergin, the Electron project;
— Vladimir Samusenko, the project “Wear-resistant coatings of tribological knots and equipment for their application”;
— Sergey Anushkin, TRELEPORT project;
— Evgeny Terentyev, the project on the automated control system for small self-propelled vehicles;
— Ivan Efimov, the project on the portable software and hardware complex for the protection of data transmission via wi-fi

“The Pre-accelerator finalists learned a lot, “levelled up” and presented the fully-prepared projects. The main thing is to keep pursuing your goals, because persistence and passion for what you do are the most important qualities of an innovative entrepreneur,” commented Anton Sorokin, the head of the “UMNIK” program.
