22 start-ups have been selected for participation in the first accelerator in Russia for the defence industry complex

An on-site selection of start-ups for the Dual Technologies track of the federal start-up accelerator GenerationS took place in Moscow, the exclusive license for launch is owned by RVC Infrafund. Representatives of the industrial partner of the track - Voentelecom JSC, partners - Roselectronics JSC and Aviation Complex named after S.V. Ilyushin PJSC selected 22 projects for the first Russian accelerator in the field of dual technologies.

In 2017, more than 200 applications from various entrepreneurs in 52 cities of Russia were submitted for participation in the Dual Technologies track. Based on remote selection results, 46 projects were invited to Bootcamp where they presented developments in sensorics, robotics, artificial intelligence, new energy sources, neuro technologies, VR and AR.

To participate in the accelerator, the expert jury selected the following projects:

  1. REYNOLDS, small-sized gas-turbine engines for unmanned aircraft;
  2. IRWAY, a night vision system for motor vehicles;
  3. Sintech Solutions, motor controllers, battery management systems and on-board computers;
  4. HIVE, a system for navigation accuracy enhancement;
  5. DO-RA.M, a network-centric intelligent global system for lionizing radiation monitoring;
  6. Nilar, security of automated transport;
  7. An artificial olfaction system based on semiconductor gas sensors;
  8. An induction steam generator;
  9. MARS, a Mobile Cross-Country Autonomous Robotic System;
  10. SPS SPARS, technology of human self-rescuing from high-rise facilities;
  11. Monitoring of the safe condition of the load-bearing elements of structures;
  12. A geoinformation platform with a three-dimensional interface;
  13. A system of real time operational production planning;
  14. Viper, Russian production of drones;
  15. Connected transponder and distance-measuring device;
  16. ARGUS Tech, a compact multi-hyperspectral camera;
  17. Manufacture of electric cars based on modular energy storage devices of extended capacity;
  18. Embedded Video Analytics;
  19. Orion, a biometric identification platform;
  20. Thermal emission cooling system for turbine blades of gas turbine units and engines;
  21. An optical transmitter-receiver;
  22. A decentralized, failsafe system for management of geographically distributed resources.

The best projects will be able to attract investments from partners as well as become part of portfolio companies of RVC subsidiary funds.

In terms of investment, Infrafund is more concerned with projects that have a product and the first revenue. As a result of the acceleration program, projects can be supported by partners, and often investments that prove their attractiveness to the market. Here we can notice a synergistic effect from the interaction of the accelerator, venture fund and industrial partners’, says Anton Vasiliev, Chief Investment Officer - Deputy Director of Infrafund RVC.
We are ready to help novice entrepreneurs and jointly work out necessary integration solutions. If necessary, we will pack them into a ready-made structure and present to the final customer in a single portfolio. Large companies do not keep up with all the decisions in rapidly developing areas, such as telecom, IT, or information security. There are not enough resources to get familiar with all of them, so we are very grateful to GenerationS for their help and the opportunity to get to know and work closely with really interesting projects’, said Andrey Tyurin, Head of the Department of Systemic and Technical Development at Voentelecom JSC.
Dual Technologies is a new format and direction for GenerationS. As part of the track, young companies for the first time can offer developments that will be useful both for the defence-industrial complex and for the civil sector. Due to the fact that these areas differ from the point of view of the financial model, integration into production and promotion, the projects will be able to gain diverse experiences in the accelerator and will be adapted to work in both markets’, said Ekaterina Petrova, Head of GenerationS Accelerator.

From February to April, the selected projects will undergo an intensive acceleration program on the premises of infrastructure partners of the track - Moscow State University named after M. V. Lomonosov (MSU), MTU MIREA, TSU (Tomsk State University), Ural Federal University named after B. N. Yeltsin, South Ural State University. The program consists of an educational unit as well as mentoring, networking, preparation of documentation for consideration by a potential investor and designing of a model for the launch of ‘dual-use technology’ to the civil market.
