A Demo Day of the TechNet track of the federal start-up GenerationS accelerator by RVC was held at St. Petersburg Polytechnic University named after Peter the Great. Three leaders from Perm, Yekaterinburg and Obninsk shared a prize fund worth RUB 1M and received an invitation to the final of GenerationS-2017.
The first place was taken by the team from Perm - FDM project ver. 2.0 under the guidance of Evgeny Matveev developed a smart extruder for a 3D printer which can be used to print products from composite materials and refractory thermoplastics. The start-up received financing in the amount of 500 thousand roubles for project development.
The second place and a prize of 300 thousand roubles were granted to a project from Yekaterinburg – an innovative SEMA dehumidifer, which, unlike silica gel, is easily disposed of. A product presented by the team of Anastasia Melnikova and Sergey Kokshakov ensures protection of various cargoes from moisture, condensation and so-called container rain, bacterial damage and corrosion during transportation.
The project called ‘New Generation Polymer Supplements’ by Sergey Losev became the third prize winner of the TechNet track and received 200 thousand roubles. Among the key characteristics of the new polymers – enhanced thermal stability, a significant improvement in the performance characteristics of finished products, reduced toxicity in heating and combustion as well as decreased fullness of polymer compositions due to polyfunctional properties.
The top five projects also included a software package for 3D modelling VR Concept (4th place) from the Moscow Region and A.A.C. Polymers technology of heat-conducting polymer composites (5th place) from Volgograd. All five finalists will present their innovations to investors at the GenerationS-2017 Superfinal where they will be competing for a prize fund worth RUB 16M.
In addition, five participants in the accelerator - a system of robotic warehouse Cybersklad, SaaS-service of preparation and maintenance of documents for industrial safety testing laboratories Lab365, SEMA, Stimul Group and FDM ver. 2.0 - signed an agreement of intent with Sberinvest UK, whose representatives offered the projects opportunities for further cooperation and fundraising.
In total, 12 projects related to additive technologies, 3D printing and other promising areas of industrial production passed through acceleration within this track. Within three months of the educational program, the teams have developed business models and drafted development plans for projects jointly with experts of the industrial partner - ODK-Saturn PJSC and the working group Technet NTI.
‘Compared to last year, we managed to make serious changes not only to the educational unit, but also to the approach to team training. It is not possible to teach a company to do business within such short period of time, but we managed to open a horizon for them and show available opportunities. And this is the most important thing - to demonstrate to the project what else can be done in a rapidly changing market and how to adapt to these changes’, said Dmitry Ivanov, Director for Innovations at ODK-Saturn PJSC.
‘Together with ODK-Saturn, we have selected projects that not only correspond to the corporate customer tasks, but also are attractive to investors. In the future, the accelerator participants can become part of the Factory of the Future, which will help attract novice technology entrepreneurs and further develop innovation infrastructure’, noted Ekaterina Petrova, the Head of the accelerator GenerationS.
‘I was pleasantly surprised by the high quality of the projects; I watched them during the selection stage in the accelerator, and now I noticed that great progress was made. What I like about the TechNet track is the development of the project from different sides: teams work not only on the product itself, but also elaborate on production issues, including those related to implementation. The accelerator team has done a great job, I see several companies at the end that are potentially interesting to us, and we will negotiate on possible financing’, emphasized Natalia Podsosonnaya, General Director and Member of the Board of Directors of Sberinvest CJSC.
GenerationS - the largest start-up accelerator in Russia and Eastern Europe, the federal platform to develop corporate acceleration tools. It has been held by RVC since 2013. Over 20 Russian corporations interested in selecting and accelerating start-ups, become industrial partners to GenerationS every year. As a result of the multi-stage examination, the GenerationS participants receive ample opportunities for business development and investment promotion as well as access to resources and infrastructure of accelerator partners. In 2017, 3,470 applications from 13 countries were submitted to participate in GenerationS.
