Two start-ups from Yekaterinburg reach the final of the GenerationS Preaccelerator

The site of the Universitetsky Hi-tech park located in Yekaterinburg hosted the Demo Day of GenerationS Preaccelerator, the federal program to prepare early-stage start-ups. The winners will present their projects to investors at the accelerator final on April 27 in Moscow.

The Preaccelerator program, which took place in Yekaterinburg, featured 18 teams from Perm, Lysva, Chelyabinsk, Yakutsk, Miass, Kostanay and Yekaterinburg. After a seven-day intensive educational workshop, the participants presented their projects to the jury members as part of the pitch session.

Two projects from Yekaterinburg became winners of the Preaccelerator: SkinCancerStop, a mobile app for early diagnosis of skin malignant tumors developed by Alexandra Shubina’s team and an infrared fiber-optic moisture sensor in transformer oil developed by Anastasia Lashova’s team. The participants will submit their projects to experts and GenerationS investors at the federal final of GenerationS.

Anastasia Lashova’s project is aimed at increasing the service life of power transformers due to continuous monitoring of moisture level inside the transformer oil. The concept of the sensor to be developed is based on absorption of oil and water in the infrared range and transmission of the optical signal through a fiber probe, which reduces electromagnetic interference and helps obtain real-time concentration values with high accuracy.

"The Preaccelerator helped refine several aspects of the project: consumer market, stages of market penetration, financial planning. The team made good use of the knowledge about the opportunities for investment and patenting in different countries around the world. We did not expect to reach the finals since all the companies, participating in the face-to-face competition in Yekaterinburg, presented profound and interesting projects. Now that our project has been so praised by the experts, our desire to implement it has become even stronger," said Anastasia Lashova.

SkinCancerStop mobile app is a computer diagnostic system based on images or photos of skin. Alexander Shubin, author of the project, highlights the high potential of this method for screening and early detection of melanoma and other malignant skin tumors and subsequent possibility of treating diseases at their early stages.

The GenerationS Preaccelerator is run by the Russian Venture Company. This year it is held for the first time in a regional format. 2 best projects from each regional program will fight for victory in the GenerationS-2017 final. The teams from Samara, Kazan, St. Petersburg, Tomsk and Yekaterinburg have been selected for the final, the best companies from Rostov-on-Don and Moscow will be known in the upcoming weeks.
