ALROSA selects 5 startups for cooperation
ALROSA has summed up the results of scouting for technological startups which was arranged on the basis of the corporate accelerator GenerationS from RVC. Five teams that have passed the pre-qualification stage will be able to develop solutions for implementing their products within the corporation and raise necessary funding.
Project teams from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg and Astrakhan have been selected for further cooperation:
- "Hydrochrome" — an innovative technology of kimberlite ore enrichment;
- Sapropel center — development of alluvial diamond deposits using hydraulic borehole mining technology;
- Unicum X-ray — a diamond X-ray detection system;
- Titan Power Solutions — supercondensator systems for guaranteed engine start;
- Warden Machinery — machine vision technology for mineral analysis.
Another 7 startups have been recommended to participate in the tender procedures.
"This year the competition turned out to be very fruitful — the number of interesting proposals for the company saw an increase, the final stage was reached by projects featuring a high potential for production launch or at the stage of completed R&D and higher. On the whole, we witnessed an increased number of projects that passed the selection. Moreover, now additional efforts are made for some projects that did not reach the final — it is quite possible that they will still be implemented within our company", said Dmitry Amelkin, Director of the Center for Strategic Projects and Analytics at ALROSA.
"The selection of projects was difficult, the experts examined more than 250 applications from the teams that offered competitive products ready for implementation in ALROSA manufacturing lines. Projects that have not been selected stay however within sight of GenerationS and ALROSA and will be considered if their solutions have been finalized and brought up to the next stage of development", said Ekaterina Petrova, Director of the Corporate Accelerator GenerationS.
Selection of technology startups in the diamond mining industry for ALROSA was launched in September 2018. In total, over 250 teams from 53 cities of Russia, Kazakhstan and Latvia have applied for the participation during the project implementation.
